A seasoned professional with over 10 years of experience in Canadian, international, personal taxation, and transfer pricing, Akira Kamio has held key positions both in professional firms and multinational corporations. He holds an LL.M. in Taxation from HEC Montréal and is a CPA auditor.

Before joining Barricad, Akira led the tax functions of large international corporations, ensuring compliance with Canadian obligations (T106, T1134, T1135, NR4, etc.) while serving as the primary contact with tax authorities. He also worked in professional firms, where he oversaw the review of corporate tax returns, the analysis of international structures, and the management of complex tax issues.

His expertise includes surplus calculations, Foreign Accrual Property Income (FAPI), high-net-worth individual taxation, cross-border planning, tax treaties, foreign corporate compliance, and international financing structures. He regularly supports clients in setting up intercompany loans, capitalizations, and other forms of cross-border financing, while ensuring compliance with Canadian requirements and applicable tax treaties.

Recognized for his technical rigor, clear analysis, and pedagogical skills, Akira also plays an active role in ongoing training and in keeping abreast of tax developments, both internally and externally.
